man ray'in en meşhur fotoğraflar arasında yer alan tears* 'ın, ray'in en beğendiği işlerinden biri olduğu düşünülebilinir. bir ekran yıldının bir film karesinde beliren duygulu ifadesine benzer biçimde, fotodaki kadının yukarı doğru ağlamaklı bakışı ve belirgin rimeli, acı ve şaşkınlık duygusunu yansıtır. yüz gerçek bir kadının değil yuvarlak cam boncuklar şeklinde gözyaşı döken bir mankenin yüzüdrü ve bu sayede kanımca sahteliği ifade edilmiştir. zira man ray bu fotoğrafı paris'te fotoğrafçı sevgilisi lee miller'dan ayrıldıktan sonra çekmiştir, ve bence bu nedenle kadının sahte gözyaşlarının küçük bir intikamı ifade ediyor olma ihtimali yok değil.
